For PARTICIPATE, the artist facilitated a community-based planning process guided by the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience, Seattle, WA and generously supported by grant from the Ford Foundation to create a series of installations and public programs at Asian Arts Initiative in Philadelphia’s Chinatown North / Callowhill neighborhoods. The resulting environments and activities organized for and with communities, gathered 20 Asian Pacific American artists together ,representing 20 years of the organization, and included: a “public living room,” intergenerational knitting group, “latch hook lawn” by Shozawa, germinating seeds, a community time-line and live performances.
